Choose & Install CB Radio

Choose the right radio for you and your vehicle:
When you purchase a CB radio, you want one with all the options you like, and with a look you like. The various features are outlined in the CB radio FAQ's. There are a few other things to consider aside from style and features. Try to walk through the installation in your mind when picking out your radio. You want to make sure you get the right size radio. You don't want a large radio or a CB that hangs low on the mount in a small car. You or your passenger would constantly be bumping it with your knees. In a truck, space isn't really a concern. You do want to keep in mind that you might want to be able to reach the radio while you're driving, though.

All in Handset CB Radio
For a smaller vehicle, an all in handset CB radio might be the better choice. This type of radio has a small box that connects to the antenna and power. The mic plugs into the box and has all the controls and, generally, a LED display on it.

Mobile CB Radio
A mobile CB radio is the most common type of CB radio you will find. It's basically a small box with a bunch of dials and a mic attached to the front. They come in many different sizes, and with many different features. You want to make sure you have a good place to mount your mobile CB radio. Typically, the underside of the dash is the best place. Make sure the spot you pick out won't obstruct your or a passengers leg movement. Also, be sure whatever you are bolting the mount too is strong enough to hold the weight of the radio. Today's electronics tend to have a light weight that makes this problem trivial, but better safe than sorry.

Hand Held CB Radio
If you want a CB radio that isn't confined to your vehicle, a hand held CB radio is the way to go. These walkie-talkie like radios usually come with an rechargeable battery pay that can be plugged into your cigarette lighter and/or the wall and a mobile adapter kit that allows them to be run off your vehicle's CB antenna.
